Ave Maria!
Prayer for the 2016 Presidential Election

Jesus, our Lord and Savior, we beseech you:

Please help our country elect a president after your own heart. Help all citizens of the United States of America deepen our faith, hope and love in you. Dear God, please help us turn that faith into action, and elect a president that will have wisdom, courage and the fortitude to do your will. Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, please help change the hearts of those who do not believe in, or understand the preservation of the sanctity of life. Please dear Lord, make this the president that reverses the Roe vs. Wade ruling. For those who do not understand the denigration of life that such a ruling has imposed, please open their eyes and hearts to see how clearly wrong it is to devalue a life, simply because they cannot grasp when life truly begins, or because their fear of bringing new life in the world is too great.

And dear God, please have mercy and forgive all those who have opened their eyes.

Have mercy on us all.

Jesus, our Good Shepherd, during these difficult times for our country, please deliver us a leader that will lead our country with humility, wisdom and faith in you. And please Jesus help us as a nation to elect such a person, so that we as individuals, as well as a nation may find ourselves on a pathway home to you.

We place our faith and trust in you.

Amen.

Cardinal Burke on the Presidential Election

I think that what we have to do in this time is to look at both candidates to see if one of them will not, at least in some way, advance the common good, both with respect to the good of human life, the good of the family, the freedom of conscience, the care of the poor, and to look at that very carefully

More than likely the judgment will be that neither candidate ideally answers these questions all in the way that we want. But given the nature of our government, can we in conscience support one of the candidates, at least, who, while maybe [he or she] doesn't support everything that we believe and know is important, will at least support it to a certain extent with the hope that that candidate can be convinced to embrace evermore fully the common good,

And I understand these sentiments very well. But one also has to be very prudent, and know that by not voting at all you are probably favoring one candidate or another…. The moral weight to voting is indeed very heavy. In other words, every vote counts.[2]

Immaculate Virgin Mary,
chosen Patroness of these United States,
pray for us who have recourse to Thee.
