were saddened to lose Archbishop Theodore J. Rematt, who died on January 27th, a
few weeks after surgery to remove a brain tumor. The funeral Mass on
Saturday, January 30th at Saints Lazarus, Martha and Mary Catholic Church, 1981 St.
Lawrence Road, Patton, Pennsylvania was celebrated by the Most Reverend Louis Milazzo, assisted by the Reverend Father Leonard Bealko, OSJ, The See of
Caer-Glow was represented by the Most Reverend Richard J. Euler, OSJ.
Interment was in the parish cemetery.
After service in the U.S. Navy and a 25 year career in business, Archbishop
Rematt was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood by the Most Reverend John E.
Schweikert on May 28, 1982. Archbishop Schweikert elevated him to the
Episcopate on June 22, 1987, with Rematt succeeding Schweikert as Bishop of the
Old Roman Catholic Diocese of Chicago from 1988 through 2006. He
returned to his native Pennsylvania and founded Saints Lazarus, Martha and Mary
in the former Novus Ordo church of Saint Lawrence in Patton. While
pastor at Saints Lazarus, Martha and Mary he also served as a chaplain for
Horizons Hospice until shortly before his diagnosis.
God, who didst raise Thy servant Theodore to the dignity of bishop in the
apostolic priesthood; grant, we beseech Thee, that he may be joined in
fellowship with Thine apostles for evermore. Though our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy
Son, who lives and reigns with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God,
forever and ever. Amen.
