Regína sacratíssimi Rosárii, ora pro nobis!

Queen of Apostles
Saturday within the Octave of the Ascension

[Latin Text]

Introit: Ps. lxxxvi: 1-3

Her foundation is upon the holy mountains. The Lord loves the gates of Sion more than any of the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are said of thee, O city of God. (PT: Alleluia, alleluia!) [Ps.] Behold, now bless the Lord all you servants of the Lord, you who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God. Glory be.... Her foundation....

O God, who didst send Thine Holy Ghost upon the Apostles as they were united in prayer with Mary, the Mother of Jesus: grant we beseech Thee; that the Queen of the Apostles, the same Mother of us all, may help us to serve Thy Majesty faithfully, and to spread the glory of Thy name by word and example.

Commemoration of the Octave

Grant, we beseech Thee, almighty God, that we who believe Thine only-begotten Son, our Redeemer, to have this day ascended into heaven, may ourselves dwell in spirit among heavenly things.

Epistle: Acts i: 1-14

A reading from the Acts of the Apostles:

In the former book, O Theophilus, I spoke of all that Jesus did and taught from the beginning until the day on which He was taken up, after He had given commandments through the Holy Ghost to the apostles whom He had chosen. To them also He showed Himself alive after His passion by many proofs, during forty days appearing to them and speaking of the kingdom of God. And while eating with them, He charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, "of whom you have heard," said He, "by My mouth; for John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence." They therefore who had come together began to ask Him, saying, "Lord, wilt Thou at this time restore the kingdom of Israel?" But He said to them, "It is not for you to know the times or the dates which the Father has fixed by His own authority; but you shall receive power when the Holy Ghost comes upon you, and you shall be witnesses for Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the very ends of the earth." And when He had said this, He was lifted up before their eyes, and a cloud took Him out of their sight. And while they were gazing up to heaven as He went, behold, two men stood by them in white garments, and said to them, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up to heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, shall come in the same way as you have seen Him going up to heaven." Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near to Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey. And when they had entered the city, they came to the upper room where were staying Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon the Zealot, and Jude the brother of James. All these with one mind continued steadfastly in prayer with the women and Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and with His brethren.

Alleluia: Num. xvii: 8; Judith xiii: 17-18

Alleluia, alleluia! The rod of Jesse has blossomed. A virgin has brought forth the God-man. God has restored peace to us, reconciling in Himself the lowness of earth and the highness of heaven. Alleluia! Praise the Lord our God who has not forsaken those who hope in Him, and who by me, his handmaid, has fulfilled His mercy which He promised to the house of Israel; He has killed the enemy of His people by my hand. Alleluia!

The Gospel: John 19: 25-27

+    The continuation of the Holy Gospel according to John:

At that time, there were standing by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus, therefore, saw His mother and the disciple standing by, whom He loved, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold, thy son." Then He said to the disciple, "Behold, thy mother." And from that hour, the disciple took her into his home.

Offertory: Judith v: 3, 7-8

It is I, it is I who will sing to the Lord, I will sing to the Lord, the God of Israel. The valiant men ceased and rested in Israel, until a mother arose in Israel. The Lord chose new wars, and He Himself overthrew the gates of the enemies. (PT: Alleluia!)

May our offering, O Lord, hasten the growth of Thy Church and add to the splendor of the virtues of Her members through Thy mercy and the intercession of the blessed ever-virgin Mary.

Commemoration of the Octave

Accept, O Lord, the gifts we offer Thee in memory of the glorious ascension of Thy Son, and graciously grant that, being delivered from present dangers, we may attain eternal life.

Preface of the Blessed Virgin

Blessed Mother and spotless virgin, glorious Queen of the world, intercede for us with the Lord, for thou art the glory of Israel, the honor of our people.

O Lord, the Sacrament we have received will help us towards salvation. May we persevere in doing Thy holy will so that Thy Church may always increase under the protection of the blessed ever-virgin Mary, the Queen of Apostles.

Commemoration of the Octave

Grant us, we beseech Thee, O almighty and merciful God, that what we have received in visible mysteries may profit us by its invisible effect.
