Saint Padre Pio - Mother Pelican
Fr. William Hart McNichols

Latin Text

Introit:

What is in the heart of man Thine eyes have seen, O Lord; it is all written in Thy book. For God sees what is in every heart, and understands the thoughts of all. [Ps. lxxxiii, 2-3] How lovely is Thy dwelling place, O Lord, God of Hosts! My soul yearns and pines for the courts of the Lord. Glory be to the Father.... What is in the hearts of man....

Collects:

Almighty and merciful God, Thou didst make Saint Pio glorious by his pastoral zeal, his constant prayer, his ardor of penance, and by renewing the marks of Thy Passion in his flesh: grant, we beseech Thee, that by his example and intercession we may be able to win the souls of our brethren for Christ, and together with them gain eternal glory.

2. S. Linus, Pope and Martyr.

Eternal Shepherd, look graciously upon Thy flock, and through blessed Linus, Thy Martyr and Supreme Pontiff, whom Thou didst appoint pastor of the Universal Church, keep it under Thy continual protection.

3. S. Thecla, Virgin and Martyr

Grant, we beseech Thee, O almighty God that we who celebrate the heavenly birthday of blessed Thecla, Thy virgin and martyr, may both rejoice in her annual feast, and profit by the example of her great faith. Through our Lord.

Epistle: Galatians vi: 14-18

A reading from the Epistle of Blessed Paul the Apostle to the Galatians:
Brethren: God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ; by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And whosoever shall follow this rule, peace on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. From henceforth let no man be troublesome to me; for I bear the marks of the Lord Jesus in my body. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.

Graduale Ps. xxxvi: 30-31

The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom, and his tongue shall speak judgment. The law of his God is in his heart, and his steps shall not be supplanted.
Alleluia, alleluia. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord; he will delight exceedingly in His commandments. Alleluia.

Gospel: John xx. 19-23

The continuation of the Holy Gospel
according to John.

At that time, when it was late the same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together for fear of the Jews, Jesus came, and stood in the midst of them, and said to them, "Peace be to you." And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. The disciples therefore were glad when they saw the Lord. He said to them again, "Peace be to you. As the Father has sent Me, I also send you." When He had said this, He breathed upon them, and said to them, "Receive ye the Holy Ghost: whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them: and whose sins ye shall retain, they are retained.

Offertory: Proverbs. xx: 5.

Counsel in the heart of a man is like deep water: but a wise man will draw it out.

Secrets:

Grant, we beseech Thee, almighty God, that our humble offering may both be pleasing to Thee for the honor of Thy saints, and cleanse us alike in body and soul.

2. S. Linus, Pope and Martyr.

We beseech Thee, O Lord, having offered our gifts, benignly enlighten Thy Church, both that the success of Thy flock may everywhere progress, and under Thy guidance Thy pastors may be pleasing to Thy Name.

3. S. Thecla, Virgin and Martyr

The Common Preface

Receive, O Lord, the gifts which we bring on the solemnity of blessed Thecla Thy virgin and martyr, through whose intercession we hope for deliverance.

Communion: John xx 27

Put in thy finger hither, and see my hands; and bring hither thy hand, and put it into my side; and be not faithless, but believing.

Postcommunions:

We beseech Thee, almighty God, that we who have received heavenly food, may, through the intercession of Blessed Pio, Thy Confessor, be defended against all adversity.

2. S. Linus, Pope and Martyr.

Be appeased, O Lord, we beseech Thee; that Thy Church, nourished with this holy refreshment, and guided by wise direction, may receive both a growth of freedom and continue steadfast in soundness of religion.

3. S. Thecla, Virgin and Martyr

May the mysteries which we have received be a help unto us, O Lord, and through the intercession of blessed Thecla Thy virgin and martyr, may they cause us to rejoice in Thine everlasting protection.
