Lent begins on March 1st, Ash Wednesday.  As noted the weekdays  (Ferials) of Lent are traditionally observed with the Lenten Fast; one full meal and two collations.  Days of abstinence are marked with a fish.  All of the days of Lent should be observed with extra prayer, meditation, spiritual reading, and good works.

* Catholics are required to Confess their serious sins and receive Holy Communion at least once between the First Sunday of Lent and Trinity Sunday.

§ A plenary indulgence is granted under the usual conditions on each Friday of Lent and Passiontide to those who after Holy Communion piously recite the prayer before a crucifix, "Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus";  on other days of the year the indulgence is partial.  (Enchiridion #22)
