Introit: Ps. xlvi: 2
Clap your hands, all ye nations. Shout unto God with the voice of joy. [Ps.] For the Lord is most high; He is awsome; He is a great King over all the earth. Glory be.... Clap your hands....
O God, whose providence in the ordering of all things never fails; we humbly beseech Thee to put away from us all harmful things, and to give us those things which are profitable for us. Through our Lord....
Epistle: Romans vi: 19-23
A reading from the Epistle of blessed Paul the Apostle to the Romans.
Brethren: I speak in a human way because of the weakness of your flesh; for as you yielded your members as slaves of uncleanness and iniquity unto iniquity, so now yield your members as slaves of justice unto sanctification. For when you were the slaves of sin, you were free as regards justice. But what fruit had you then from those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of these things is death. But now, set free from sin, and made slaves to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and as your end, life everlasting. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is life everlasting in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Gradual: Ps. xxxiii: 12, 6
Come children, harken to me. I will teach you fear of the Lord. Come ye to Him and be enlightened; and your faces shall not be confounded.
Alleluia, alleluia. O clap your hands, all ye nations; shout unto God with the voice of joy. Alleluia.
Gospel: Matthew vii: 15-21
+ The continuation of the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,`shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father in heaven shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Offertory: Daniel iii: 40
As in holocausts of rams and bullocks, and as in thousands of fat lambs; so let our sacrifice be made in Thy sight this day, that it may please Thee; for there is no confusion for them that trust in Thee, O Lord.
O God, who in this one sacrifice hast perfected the offering of the many victims prescribed under the Old Law; receive this same sacrifice offered by Thy devoted servants and sanctify it with a blessing, like unto that which Thou didst bestow upon the offerings of Abel; that what each one of us has brought here to the glory of Thy name, may profit all unto salvation.
Communion: Ps. xxx: 3
Bow down Thine ear, make haste to deliver me.
May Thy healing work in our souls mercifully free us from our perverse inclinations O Lord, and lead us ever to do that which is right in Thy sight.
