A Few Pictures from Easter AD 2006

A great deal of preparation goes into the ceremonies of Holy Week and Easter.  On Holy Saturday, in preparation for the vigil Mass, the altar is covered in fresh linen.  The gold antependium and tabernacle veil are then covered with a purple throw, which will be removed at the Glória in Excélsis, together with the purple drapes which have covered the statues since Passion Sunday.

Easter Sunday Morning brings a crowd of cheerful worshipers to rejoice in the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lumen Christi!
The Paschal candle, made from the pure wax of virgin bees is a symbol of the flesh of our Blessed Lord.  The red wax nails inserted into the candle represent his five wounds.

Even the normally unchanging Canon of the Mass makes mention of the Resurrection of the Lord, and prays especially for those who were baptized during the Vigil.

Before receiving Holy Communion, the congregation recites the Confíteor.  The priest turns to make the Sign of the Cross, asking God to "grant pardon, absolution, and remission of our sins."

"Lord, I am not worthy that Thou shouldst enter under my roof,  speak but the word and my soul will be healed."

Benedícat vos omnípotens Deus, Pater, et Fílius, et Spíritus Sanctus.  Amen

May Almighty God bless you, the father and the Son, and the Holy Ghost.  Amen.

A little something being prepared after Mass, before heading home to Easter dinner with friends and family.
