Blessing of the Medal of St. Benedict [White stole] V. Our Help +
is in the name of the Lord. Priest: I do exorcize you, O medals [thee, O
medal] by God the Father + almighty, who made
heaven and earth, the sea, and all things that are in them. May all the power of
the enemy, all the devil's legions, and every attack and illusion of Satan be
removed and driven out from these [this] medals; so that they [it] may become a
source of health to soul and body for all you shall make use of them [it]: in
the name of the Father + almighty, and of Jesus +
Christ His Son, our Lord, and of the Holy + Ghost
the Paraclete, and in the love of the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who shall
come to judge the living and the dead, and the world by fire. Priest: Lord have mercy.
Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. V. Save Thy servants. V. Be for us, O Lord, a tower of strength. V. The Lord will give power to His people. V. Send to us, O Lord, assistance from
Thine holy place. V. O Lord, hear my prayer. V. The Lord be with you. Priest: Let us pray. O almighty God, giver
of all good things, we humbly beseech Thee that through the intercession of
Saint Benedict, Thou wouldst pour forth Thy + blessing upon these Sacred
Medals [this Sacred Medal], so that all who shall wear them
[it] and earnestly strive to
perform good works, may deserve to obtain health of soul and body, the grace of
increasing holiness, and the indulgences granted; and that they may strive, by
the help of Thy mercy, to escape all the snares and deceits of the devil, and
thus be able to appear holy and sinless in Thy sight. Through Christ our Lord. Priest: Let us pray. O Lord Jesus Christ,
who didst will to be born of a Virgin for the redemption of the world, to be
circumcized, rejected by the Jews, betrayed by Judas with a kiss, bound in
chains, crowned with thorns, pierced with nails, crucified between thieves,
wounded with a lance, and even to die on a Cross: Through this, Thy
sacred passion, I humbly exhort Thee to expel all of the wickedness and deceit
of the devil from those who devoutly invoke Thine holy name by means of these
letters and characters designated by Thee, and deign to bring them to the
entrance of salvation: Thou who dost live and reign for ever and ever. Priest: May the blessing of Almighty God, the
Father, the Son, + and the Holy Ghost, descend upon these medals, and upon those
who carry the, and remain forever. The medal[s] are then sprinkled with holy water. For an explanation of the inscription of the medal see The Catholic Encyclopedia s.v. "Medal of Saint Benedict." |
