January 5th: Psalm xxviii-“Tribúite Dómino” 1. Give to the Lord, all you sons of God, * give to the Lord glory and praise, 2. Give to the Lord the glory due His name; * adore the Lord in holy attire.1. The voice of the Lord is over the waters, the God of glory thunders, * the Lord over vast waters.2. The voice of the Lord is mighty; * the voice of the Lord is majestic.1. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars, * the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.2. He makes Lebanon leap like a calf * and Sarion like a young wild bull.1. The voice of the Lord strikes fiery flames; the voice of the Lord shakes the desert, * the Lord shakes the wilderness of Cades.2. The voice of the Lord twists the oaks, and strips the forests, * and in His temple all say, "Glory!"1. The Lord is enthroned above the flood; * the Lord is enthroned as king forever.2. May the Lord give strength to His people; * May the Lord bless His people with peace!1. Glory be to the Father and to the Son * and to the Holy Ghost.2. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.Psalm xlv-“Deus est nobis refúgium et robur” 1. God is our refuge and our strength, * an ever present help in distress.2. Therefore we fear not, though the earth be shaken * and mountains plunge into the depths of the sea;1. Though its waters rage and foam * and the mountains quake at its surging.2. The Lord of Hosts is with us; * our stronghold is the God of Jacob.1. There is a stream whose runlets gladden the city of God, * the holy dwelling of the Most High.2. God is in its midst; it shall not be disturbed; * God will help it at the break of dawn.1. Though nations are in turmoil, kingdoms totter, * His voice resounds, the earth melts away.2. The Lord of Hosts is with us; * our stronghold is the God of Jacob.1. Come! behold the deeds of the Lord, * the astounding things He has wrought on earth:2. He has stopped wars to the end of the earth: * the bow He breaks; He splinters the spears; He burns the shields with fire.1. Desist! and confess that I am God, * exalted among the nations, exalted upon the earth.2. The Lord of Hosts is with us; * our stronghold is the God of Jacob.1. Glory be to the Father and to the Son * and to the Holy Ghost.2. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end. Amen.Psalm cxxxxvi-“Laudáte Dóminum, quia bonus est” 1. The Lord sustains the lowly; * the wicked He casts to the ground.1. Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; * sing praise with the harp to our God.2. Retreat, Satan, inventor and master of all deceit, enemy of man's salvation. Cede the place to Christ, in Whom you have found none of your works. Cede the place to the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, acquired by Christ at the price of His Blood. Stoop beneath the all-powerful hand of God, tremble and flee at the evocation of the holy and terrible Name of Jesus, this Name which causes Hell to tremble, this Name to which the Virtues, Powers, and Dominations of heaven are humbly submissive, this Name which the Cherubim and Seraphim praise unceasingly, repeating: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord, the God of hosts. Salt is blessed if this has not been done beforehand [Priest] Let us pray.Almighty and everlasting God, we humbly implore
Thee, in Thine immeasurable kindness and love, to bless +
this salt, which Thou hast created and given to the use of mankind, so that it
may become a source of health for the minds and bodies of all who make use of
it. May it rid whatever it touches or sprinkles of all uncleanness, and protect
it from every assault of evil spirits. Through Christ our Lord. Exorcism and Blessing of the Water: [Priest] O water, creature of God, I exorcise thee in the name of God the Father + almighty, and in the name of Jesus + Christ His Son, our Lord, and in the power of the Holy + Ghost. I exorcise thee so that thou may put to flight all the power of the enemy, and be able to root out and supplant that enemy with his apostate angels: through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will come to judge the living and the dead, and the world by fire.[All] Amen. [Priest] Let us pray. O God, for the salvation of mankind, Thou didst
build Thy greatest mysteries on this substance, water. In Thy kindness, hear our
prayers, and pour down the power of Thy blessing +
into this element, made ready for many kinds of purifications. May this, Thy
creature, become an agent of divine grace in the service of Thy mysteries, to
drive away evil spirits and dispel sickness, so that everything in the homes and
other buildings of the faithful that is sprinkled with this water may be rid of
all uncleanness, and freed from every harm. Let no breath of infection, no
disease-bearing air, remain in these places. May the wiles of the lurking enemy
prove of no avail. Let whatever might menace the safety and peace of those who
live here be put to flight by the sprinkling of this water, so that the health
obtained by calling upon Thy holy name may be made secure against all attack.
Through Christ our Lord. The priest adds blessed salt to the water in the form of a cross: [Priest] M ay a mixture of salt and water now be made, in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Ghost.[All] Amen. [Priest] The Lord be with you.[All] And with thy spirit. [Priest] Let us pray. O God, Creator unconquerable, invincible King,
Victor ever-glorious, Thou hold in check the forces bent on dominating us. Thou
overcome the cruelty of the raging enemy. In Thy power, Thou beat down the
wicked foe. Humbly and fearfully do we pray to Thee, O Lord, and we ask
Thee to look with favor upon this salt and water which Thou didst create. Shine
on it with the light of Thy kindness. Sanctify it by the dew of Thy love, so
that, through the invocation of Thy holy name, wherever this water and salt is
sprinkled, it may turn aside every attack of the unclean spirit, and dispel the
terror of the poisonous serpent. And, wherever we may be, make the Holy Ghost
present to us who implore Thy mercy. Through Christ our Lord.
