Blessing of the Infirm
(Text in parenthesis may not be appropriate if given in
church,
outside of the home or hospital room of the sick person.)
(The priest enters the room of the sick person.
V. Peace be to this house.
R. And to all who dwell herein.)
V. Our help is in the name of
the Lord
R. Who hath made heaven and earth.
V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And Let my cry come unto Thee.
V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.
Priest: Let us pray. As I enter
here with a sense of my own unworthiness, O Lord Jesus Christ, may Thy peace and
Thy mercy enter with me. Let the demons with all their wickedness flee from this
place; let the Angels of peace be present, (and let
all hateful dissension take leave of this house). O
Lord, show forth in us the greatness of Thy holy name, and bless whatever we do.
Thou who art holy and loving, who live with the Father and the Holy Ghost for
ever and ever.
R. Amen.
Priest: Let us pray. O Lord, look upon Thy
servant N., laboring under bodily weakness.
Cherish and receive the soul which Thou hast created, so that, purified by
his sufferings, he may soon find himself healed by Thy mercy. Through
Christ our Lord.
R. Amen. |
Priest: Let us pray. O Lord, look upon
Thine handmaid N., laboring under bodily
weakness. Cherish and receive the soul which Thou hast created, so that,
purified by her sufferings, she may soon find herself healed by Thy mercy.
Through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.

Priest: Let us pray. O Lord, who in Thy
mercy dost console Thy faithful, we ask of Thee in Thy boundless love that
as I, Thy lowly servant, enter here, Thou mayest visit this Thy servant, N.,
(lying on his bed of pain),
as Thou visited the mother of Peter's wife. In Thy kindness be with him, O
Lord, so that he may regain his strength, and be able to give thanks to
Thee in Thy church. Thou who live and reign, God, for ever and ever.
R. Amen. |

Extending his right hand toward the sick person, the priest
says:
May the Lord Jesus Christ be with thee that He may defend
thee; within thee that He may sustain thee; before thee that He may lead thee;
behind thee that He may protect thee; above thee that He may bless thee; He who
lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Ghost for ever and ever.
R. Amen.
May the blessing of almighty God, the Father and the Son †
and the Holy Ghost descend upon thee and remain forever.
R. Amen.
He sprinkles the sick person with holy water.
